Electrical discharge wire cutting machining is referred to as "wire cutting". It uses the electrode wire (molybdenum wire, tungsten molybdenum wire, etc.) as the tool electrode, under the action of the pulse power supply, the spark discharge is formed between the tool electrode and the machining workpiece, and the spark channel instantly generates a lot of heat, so that the surface of the workpiece is melted or even vaporized. The wire cutting machine makes the electrode wire move along the predetermined trajectory through the movement of X-Y and U-V brackets, so as to achieve the purpose of machining the workpiece.
CNC wire cut machining (CNC wire cut EDM) is the same as EDM forming, it also directly uses electrical energy and thermal energy to process the workpiece, and can process a variety of conductive materials that are difficult to process by general cutting processing methods, such as high hardness, high brittleness, high toughness, high heat sensitive metal or semiconductor materials.
As one of the important supplements of machining, EDM cutting machining has opened up a new way for the trial production of new products, the manufacture of precision fine parts and molds, such as the convex and concave die of the stamping die, the tool electrode of the EDM forming machine tool, the workpiece template, the tool gauge and the small workpiece or narrow slit of the fine and complex shape, and can overlap the wafer processing to obtain a consistent size.
Since the beginning of the application in the late 1950s, CNC EDM machining has achieved extremely rapid development with its own unique characteristics, and has gradually become a high-precision and high-automation method, which has been widely used in various manufacturing industries such as instruments, meters, electronics, and automobiles.
